Meet Melissa

melmadiHi there! Welcome to Silence Not Guaranteed!

I am venturing on this journey to explore how I can be a vessel for change, for equality, for social justice, for women and for God’s love.

In Matthew 25, Jesus Christ said, “‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.” I can no longer stand another minute of being silent. There are too many injustices happening in our world today that are going unnoticed, unrecognized by the media, or ignored out of fear. It’s time to be bold, to take action, to allow my life to be an overflow of God’s love and mercy.

I graduated from Towson University in 2010 as a Mass Communications major, focusing on journalism. Those years forced me to go outside my element of comfort, to report on unfamiliar topics, to find my voice, to explore Baltimore City and some of the flaws beneath the charm.

Three years later, I now volunteer at my church, EPIC, for community outreach efforts in Baltimore City. Here, I enjoy being a part of our amazing music team. Music has added meaning to my life!

I also volunteer with Araminta Freedom Initiative, a Baltimore-based nonprofit with a mission to “awaken, equip, and mobilize the church and our community to end human trafficking in the Baltimore area.”

I’m married to my best friend, Sean, and we have two adorable cats, Effie and Katniss. I’m a proud geek, love marketing and event planning, DIY projects, tech/meme/LOL trends, and quality time with friends and family.

A few words that inspire me:

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” -Mother Teresa

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”-2 Corinthians 4:16-18

“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”-Rumi

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”-Steve Jobs
